About our Church
Holy Cross Church on Cromer Street has served the people of King’s Cross since 1888. Now in an area of massive physical regeneration, its essential Christian mission remains the same, both as a church designed for beautiful and formal worship and as a church which exists in service of others, and particularly to those experiencing the ravages of life. It still provides a sanctuary for countless visitors – a stopping off place, a house of God and a place of prayer and stillness amid the surrounding rush of King’s Cross. It serves local residents but also travellers, commuters, students and wayfarers. All life is here.
Local groups are using the Church’s refurbished crypt as a meeting place. The Church works closely with nearby Argyle Primary School, the King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association and other community groups. The arts are discovering the Church as a rehearsal and performance space. The Bloomsbury Festival uses the Church each year. There are strong links with nearby Goodenough College where our Parish Priest Fr Christopher Cawrse is currently Chaplain. Our community is rapidly changing and we want to change with it. Our mission plan takes on the idea of ‘a church turned inside out’ and onto the community we are called to serve – for those who stand within and beyond its traditional reach.
We welcome you to come and see!
