1.     WE WELCOME THIS MORNING COURSE DIRECTORS AND STUDENTS FROM SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY, PENNSYLVANIA, USA and their course tutor, Prof. Dominic Janes. Please stay awhile after the Mass and meet the students and give them a warm Holy Cross welcome.

2.     ADULT CHRISTIAN INSTRUCTION GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. Our first meeting takes place in church on Thursday 27th October at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend. Each session will have an extract from a theological work or a paper on which we will base our discussions. The first paper is entitled ‘The Timeliness of Speaking of God’ by Cardinal Walter Kasper, and was first delivered as The John Henry Newman Lecture at Oxford University some years ago. Coffee and biscuits will be served and the church heating will be ON! See copies of the programme at the back of church.

3.     ADVENT QUIET DAY “GRACE, MERCY AND TRUTH” AT THE CONVENT OF ST MARY AT THE CROSS IN EDGWARE takes place on Saturday 26th November from 10 am until 3 pm. We leave Holy Cross at

9 15 am prompt. Please bring a packed lunch. Cost: £7 each to be paid at the Priory. Our leader for the day will be

Fr Neil Kelley, Rector of the Parish of Bushey in the Willesden Area, and an experienced retreat conductor.

4.     FR JIM LINTHICUM, CHAPLAIN OF GREAT ORMOND STREET CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL will be our Celebrant and Preacher at this coming Sunday’s Parish Mass on 23rd October at 11 am.

NOTICES THIS WEEK:

 

1.     NATIONAL PILGRIMAGE TO THE SHRINE OF EDWARD THE CONFESSOR AT WESTMINSTER ABBEY IN THE OCTAVE OF HIS FEAST DAY takes place this Saturday 15th October with a Mass at 11 30 am. The Preacher will be The Rt Rev’d. Dr Geoffrey Rowell, Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Chichester and formerly Bishop of Gibraltar in Europe and Warden of Keble College, Oxford. We will leave Holy Cross Church at 10 30 am for the Abbey Mass at 11 30 am and please sign the list at the back of church if you intend to go. The Abbey is organising a whole day of events culminating with Choral Evensong and Procession at 3 pm. Not to be missed.

2.     AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST – The Bishop of Edmonton, Bishop Robert, has notified us of a movement within the Diocese of London which seeks to appoint 100,000 ambassadors for Christ by the year 2020. These are to be faithful people drawn from parishes across the Diocese of London who will be commissioned by the Bishop to communicate the love of Christ within their own spheres of influence: whether in schools, in the workplace or on our streets. There are booklets available at the back of church for more information.

1.     THE RITE  OF HOLY ANOINTING WITH THE LAYING ON OF HANDS will take place as part of this morning’s Parish Mass.

2.     THE PARISH BEATING OF THE BOUNDS took place yesterday afternoon and many thanks to all who turned up for a very energetic and educational walk around our parish boundaries. A photo appears in Facebook.

3.     HOLY CROSS PATRONAL FESTIVAL MASS FOR THE FEAST OF THE EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS THIS SUNDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER AT 6 PM. The Celebrant and Preacher will be the Bishop of Edmonton, The Rt. Rev’d. Robert Wickham. Choir members from St Alban’s Holborn will accompany the music and there will be a reception after the Mass. The occasion also marks Fr Christopher’s ten years here at Holy Cross Church. Please put this date in your diaries. A sheet is available at the back of church for promises of food items. Please sign up! Please do consider this evening Mass as your MAIN act of worship for the day.

4.     HOLY CROSS CONFIRMATION GROUP will be meeting in church this Thursday 15th September at 7 pm  for a rehearsal of this Sunday’s Patronal Mass with Baptism and Confirmation.
