1.     CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR SERVICES are detailed in the sheet provided with your order of service this morning. Do take this sheet home with you for your reference.      

2.     CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR PARISH LUNCH CLUB takes place on Saturday 7th January 2017 at 1 pm and we will be serving a full Christmas two-course menu of roast turkey and all the trimmings and Christmas Pudding. Cost £2 each. All parishoners welcome.

3.     VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY TO COOK BREAKFAST FOR THE CAMDEN COLD WEATHER NIGHT SHELTER. A list is at the back of church for you to sign if you could volunteer to join a small Holy Cross Church group cooking breakfast at St George’s Church Bloomsbury on the following dates in the New Year: Sundays January 29th, February 12th and 26th and March 12th and 26th. We leave Holy Cross Church at 6 30 am and should return by 9 am. Please sign up for one or more duties if you are able. Thank you!

4.     HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. The group is now taking a break and will resume its meetings from Wednesday 18th January 2017 at 7 pm. We will be then be outlining what is meant by Christian Doctrine and reading Christian Theology: An Introduction, by Alistair McGrath. Coffee and chocolate brownies will be served and the church heating will be ON!  

5.     P A C T S  LEAFLETS FOR INDIVIDUAL GUIDED PRAYER AND PARISH MONTHLY INTERCESSIONS BOOKLETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. You can also find these aids to prayer on the Parish website.

6.     SERMONS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. Please take ONE copy from the plastic folders. Each pack contains several!  A backlist of sermons can be found on the parish website.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

 

NOTICES THIS WEEK   

 

1.  MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO MADE OUR FIRST CAROL SERVICE WITH GOODNEOUGH COLLEGE LAST THURSDAY EVEINING SUCH A HUGE SUCCESS. THIS WILL NOW BECOME AN ANNUAL HOLY CROSS TRADITION, AS WE FORGE A NEW AND CREATIVE RELATIONSHIP  WITH THE COLLEGE.

3.     OUR TRADITIONAL CAROL SERVICE FOR LOCAL ELDERLY RESIDENTS takes place tomorrow morning  Monday 12th December at 11 am in church, with representation from King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Centre and Greatcroft Resource Centre for the Elderly in Cromer Street. We will be joined by the children’s choir of Argyle Primary School and Mr Wilfred Adderley, Solo.

4.     AN ADVENT LEAFLET is available at the back of church and details messages, suggestions and events for your Advent observance. Please take it home with you with this newsletter. It contains full information of Advent opportunities for prayer, study and with a volunteering opportunity in the coming year.

THIS TUESDAY EVENING (6th DECEMBER) IN CHURCH AT 7 PM THERE WILL BE A CANDLELIT MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO REMEMBER THEIR DEPARTED LOVED ONES.

 

 1.     THIS THURSDAY EVENING, 8th DECEMBER AT 6 30 PM – THE FIRST HOLY CROSS CANDLELIT CAROL SERVICE WITH GOODENOUGH COLLEGE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE MAYOR OF CAMDEN. Please arrive early to claim a seat as the church is expected to be full. To be followed by mulled wine and mince pies. * Please note that as this day is the Feast of The Immaculate Conception, Mass will be said at 12 45 pm and will replace the usual 6  pm Mass.*

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

 

NOTICES THIS WEEK              * PCC Meeting this coming Sunday, 4th December, after the Parish Mass. *

 

1.     TODAY IS ADVENT SUNDAY and marks the beginning of a new church year. Our Mass this morning will be a Healing Mass, with anointing and The Laying on of Hands. Also this morning, four of our congregation will be formally commissioned to Administer the Chalice at the Parish Mass and be given their certificates, signed by the Bishop of Edmonton. They are Peter Lowe, Christopher Shanley, Joyce Florrell and Charles Cannabanya. Please pray for them as they prepare to take up this new and important duty on behalf of our church. An ADVENT LEAFLET is available this morning with your service sheet and details messages, suggestions and events for your Advent practice, most notably A Service of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Vigil of Prayer this Thursday from after the 6 pm Mass at 6 30 pm.

2.     HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. However all are welcome. Our next meeting takes place in church this Wednesday 30th November at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend. This week’s discussions will based on  ‘St Paul and the Early Church’ and we will be taking our material from Henry Chadwick’s book ‘The Early Church’ and Rowan Williams’ ‘Meeting God in Paul’. Coffee and biscuits will be served and the church heating will be ON!  

3.     OUR PARISH LUNCH CLUB meets this Saturday, 3rd December at 1 pm in the Church Crypt for a delicious home cooked, two course meal. Cost £2 each.

4.     FORWARD NOTICE OF OUR TWO PARISH CAROL SERVICES The first of these is a Parish Carol Service in church with the Principal, Dean, Chaplain and students from Goodenough College and takes place on  Thursday 8th December at 6 30 pm. A reception will follow.

The second of these is our traditional Parish Carol service on Monday 12th December at 11 am in church, with its special invitation to the elder citizens from King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Centre and Greatcroft Resource Centre for the Elderly in Cromer Street.

NOTICES THIS WEEK:       

 

1.     TODAY IS REMEMRANCE SUNDAY and the Parish Mass will begin at the War Memorial at 10 50 am ahead of the 11 am National Two Minutes’ Silence. We will be joined by officers and personnel from our local Territorial Army Unit. Our Third Hymn, 489, is the National Anthem and will be sung after we have received Holy Communion. This morning’s Mass will then end after the Blessing and Dismissal and there will be no Angelus.

2.     HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. Our next meeting takes place in church Thursday 17th November at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend. This week’s discussions will be a shared discussion on ‘The Old Testament’.  Coffee and biscuits will be served and the church heating will be ON! All welcome.

9 15 am prompt. Please bring a packed lunch. Cost: £7 each to be paid at the Priory. Our leader for the day will be

Fr Neil Kelley, Rector of the Parish of Bushey in the Willesden Area, and an experienced retreat conductor. Please sign the list at the back of church if you would like to go.
