NOTICES THIS WEEK:

 

1. HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. This week’s meeting takes place this Thursday 23rd February at 7 pm in church. This week we will be preparing for Lent and enacting The Stations of the Cross. Please note we meet on Thursday and NOT on Wednesday.

2. NEXT SUNDAY WE WILL ONCE MORE WELCOME A LARGE PARTY OF AMERICAN STUDENTS FROM SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSTY IN PENNSYLVANIA, USA with Prof. Dominic Janes. Please come along and give them a great warm Holy Cross welcome.

3. VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY TO COOK BREAKFAST FOR THE CAMDEN COLD WEATHER NIGHT SHELTER. A list is at the back of church for you to sign if you could volunteer to join a small Holy Cross Church group cooking breakfast at St George’s Church Bloomsbury on the following dates: This coming Sunday, February 26th and then March 12th and 26th. We leave Holy Cross Church at 6 30 am and return by 9 am. Please sign up for one or more duties if you are able. Thank you!

4. LENTEN QUIET DAY WITH THE SISTERS AT EDGWARE ABBEY takes place on Saturday 4th March. Please sign the list at the back of church if you would like to go. We will leave church promptly at 9 am. Cost: £7 each and bring a packed lunch. The Conductor for the day will be Fr Roderick Ballantine and the day which will end with a Eucharist.

5. FORWARD NOTICE : LENTEN MISSION DAY WITH LUNCH AT HOLY CROSS takes place on Saturday 25th March in the Crypt beginning after the 10 30 am Mass at 11am and going on until 3 pm. Lunch will be provided for 1 pm. Please sign the list at the back of church of you intend to come. This event should be considered an absolute MUST for all PCC members. We will continue our discussions regarding our Parish Mission/Welcome statement and get that published for Easter Sunday. Other discussions will include our keeping of Lent, future development plans for the church plant and new ideas and suggestions for our ministry of welcome and of pastoral care. Watch out for our full Lenten programme of events and services next Sunday.

6. P A C T S  LEAFLETS FOR INDIVIDUAL GUIDED PRAYER AND PARISH MONTHLY INTERCESSIONS BOOKLETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. You can also find these aids to prayer on the Parish website.

7. SERMONS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. Please take ONE copy from the plastic folders. Each pack contains several!  A backlist of sermons can be found on the parish website.

This week we will be learning about the English Reformation from the perspective of the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII and the political/religious  settlement under Elizabeth I. We will reference Chapter 4 of Owen Chadwick’s ‘The Reformation’ and fact sheets looking at the Elizabethan Settlement are available at the back of church.

3. THE BISHOP OF LONDON’S FAREWELL MASS AT ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL takes place on Thursday 2nd February for a Mass at 6 pm. You are asked to be in place by 5 15 pm at the latest and a group from Holy Cross will be leaving church at 4 30 pm. There will be no 6 pm Mass on this day.

HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. This week’s meeting takes place on Wednesday 1st February at 7 pm at Joyce Florrell’s followed by supper. We will meet outside church at 6 50 pm. This week we will be learning about Christian saints using as our guide  Esther de Waal’s ‘Seeking God’ and Sam Wells’ ‘Saint Augustine’.

5. THIS SATURDAY 4th FEBRUARY OUR PARISH LUNCH CLUB meets downstairs in the crypt for a delicious, home cooked, two course meal. The meal is served at 1 pm and the cost is £2.50.

3. THE BISHOP OF LONDON’S FAREWELL MASS AT ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL takes place on Thursday 2nd February for a Mass at 6 pm. You are asked to be in place by 5 15 pm at the latest and a group from Holy Cross will be leaving church at 4 30 pm. There will be no 6 pm Mass on this day.

HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. This week’s meeting takes place on Wednesday 25th January at 7 pm in the church vestry after the 6 pm Mass. We will be learning about Christian Prayer using as our guide  ‘Encountering the Depths’ by Mother Mary Clare, and ‘Be Still and Know’ by Archbishop Michael Ramsey. Coffee and chocolate brownies will be served and the church heating will be ON!
