STATIONS OF THE CROSS TAKES PLACE EACH FRIDAY AT 6 PM DURING LENT.

 

1. LENT GROUP MEETINGS begin this Thursday, 9th March, at 7 pm in church: “The Return of the Prodigal Son” by Henri Nouwen. We will explore the Parable through Rembrandt’s  famous painting and see how we are able to understand the love of God and spiritual home coming. Each week we aim to see the parable from the viewpoint of the Father, the Prodigal Son and the Son who stayed at home.

2. OUR PARISH LUNCH CLUB MEETS THIS SATURDAY, 11th MARCH for a delicious, home cooked, two course lunch. £2.50 each and we serve the meal at 1 pm in the crypt. All welcome. We meet this coming Saturday as we had to postpone last Saturday’s meal. The following Lunch Club then meets on Saturday 1st April.

2. VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY TO COOK BREAKFAST FOR THE CAMDEN COLD WEATHER NIGHT SHELTER. A list is at the back of church for you to sign if you could volunteer to join a small Holy Cross Church group cooking breakfast at St George’s Church Bloomsbury on the following dates: This coming Sunday, March 12th and then March 26th. We leave Holy Cross Church at 6 30 am and return by 9 am. Please sign up for one or more duties if you are able. Thank you!

3. FORWARD NOTICE : MID-LENTEN MISSION DAY WITH LUNCH AT HOLY CROSS takes place on Saturday 25th March in the Crypt beginning after the 10 30 am Mass at 11am and going on until 3 pm. Lunch will be provided for 1 pm. Please sign the list at the back of church of you intend to come. All PCC members should attend this important meeting at which our newly appointed architect, Jonathan Louth, will host a discussion regarding the maintenance and development of our church building. We will also be formulating our mission plans for the coming year.

4. P A C T S  LEAFLETS FOR INDIVIDUAL GUIDED PRAYER AND PARISH MONTHLY INTERCESSIONS BOOKLETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH. You can also find these aids to prayer on the Parish website.

Cost: £7 each and bring a packed lunch. The Conductor for the day will be Fr Roderick Ballantine and the day which will end with a Eucharist.

HOLY CROSS THEOLOGY GROUP is aimed at the many people coming to Holy Cross for the first time and interested in developing their understanding of the Christian Faith, and finding out a bit more about our church context here at Holy Cross. This week’s meeting takes place this Thursday 23rd February at 7 pm in church. This week we will be preparing for Lent and enacting The Stations of the Cross. Please note we meet on Thursday and NOT on Wednesday.

2. NEXT SUNDAY WE WILL ONCE MORE WELCOME A LARGE PARTY OF AMERICAN STUDENTS FROM SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSTY IN PENNSYLVANIA, USA with Prof. Dominic Janes. Please come along and give them a great warm Holy Cross welcome.

This week we will be learning about the English Reformation from the perspective of the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII and the political/religious  settlement under Elizabeth I. We will reference Chapter 4 of Owen Chadwick’s ‘The Reformation’ and fact sheets looking at the Elizabethan Settlement are available at the back of church.
