NOTICES THIS WEEK

 

1. A NEW COURSE IN THE CHRISTIAN FAITH TAKES PLACE AFTER THIS SERVICE AT 12 30 PM PROMPT AND LASTS APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR. The Course is designed to meet the needs of those preparing for Confirmation in September, but also serves as a refresher course and will involve group discussion and focus on the great Christian themes. Our first meeting will be entitled “God” : Who is God and how do we experience God? An informal bread and soup and fruit lunch will be made available each week. Come and join us! All are most welcome to attend.

2.THE SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDEPENDENCE OF SOUTH SUDAN – A SERVICE OF HOPE AND JOY HERE AT HOLY CROSS CHURCH ON SATURDAY 7TH JULY BEGINNING AT 2 PM. The service will bring together the South Sudanese community in London. It will be followed by a grand reception downstairs in the crypt. All are most welcome to attend. Please see Rosa Ferdinando if you would like to contribute some food. Please pray this morning for South Sudan, a new country which is struggling to maintain peace with stability and also for our South Sudanese members, Rosa, Peter, Bendele and Ajok.

3. STUDENTS FROM BERKELEY UNIVERSITY, CALIFORNIA will once more be visiting us at Holy Cross this Friday, 22nd June from 10 am. All are most welcome to come and greet the students. There will be about 60 of them! We will be joined by our old friend (and their course leader) Prof. Dominic Janes and also Rev. Jennie Hogan from Goodenough College. The morning will take the form of two addresses, one by Fr Christopher and the other by Rev. Jennie Hogan, with a break at 11 am for coffee and cupcakes.

4. THE ARCHDEACON OF HAMPSTEAD’S TRIENNIAL VISITATION announced last week for 18th June, has now been postponed to early December of this year. The Churchwardens feel that this will give us more time to set out our new mission priorities as we seek a new tenant for the crypt premises.

5. “THE CHURCH AND SOCIAL CHALLENGES IN CONTEMPORARY BRITAIN” IS A DISCUSSISON EVENT at Royal Holloway College (11 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3RF) and Chaired by Canon Giles Fraser of St John’s Church, Waterloo. For information and registration visit http://bit.ly/2JHl6it

NOTICES THIS WEEK

 

1.THE SWEARING-IN OF OUR NEWLY ELECTED CHURCHWARDENS, CHARLES AND JULIA, takes pace this Wednesday, 13th June at Holy Trinity Church, Tottenham at 7 30 pm. Do come and cheer them on. The nearest Tube is Seven Sisters.

2. SOUTH CAMDEN DEANERY SYNOD takes place this Thursday 14th June at St Michael’s Church Camden Town (Camden Town Tube, next to Sainsbury’s). The theme of this Deanery meeting will be ‘Whole Life Discipleship’.

3. EDMONTON AREA VOCATIONS DAY - CAMDEN ROADSHOW takes place at The Lighthouse Church, Swiss Cottage (formerly Holy Trinity, Swiss Cottage) NW3 5HT from 9 30 am ‘til 12 noon on Saturday 16th June. This will be a very great event and seek to encourage and develop Christian Vocations. Do go if you feel called by God to serve him in whatever way. Many interesting conversations and friends await you!

 

“The day will involve a panel of a wide range of people, young and old, and from a diversity of backgrounds, who have responded to God’s call in a particular way.  They will each speak for five minutes on their own journey, before taking questions from the floor and then there will be an opportunity for participants to meet the members of the panel informally”.

 

4. THE ARCHDEACON OF HAMPSTEAD’S TRIENNIAL VISITATION TAKES PLACE IN THIS CHURCH ON THE EVENING OF MONDAY 18TH JUNE FROM 7 30 PM. Churchwardens and PCC members have already been Emailed with all the relevant information. This is a top priority meeting!

THE FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI TAKES PLACE AT HOLY CROSS THIS EVENING, 3RD JUNE AT 6 PM with a Service of Choral Evensong with choir members from St Alban’s Holborn, and Benediction of The Blessed Sacrament. Readings will be taken from the King James Bible. Our Preacher on this occasion will be The Rev’d. Jonathan Kester, newly appointed Area Dean of The North and South Camden Deaneries. It’s not too late to offer a dish of food as our reception after this service will be ‘bring and share’.

2. NOTICE OF A CONVERSATION WITH THE NEW BISHOP OF LONDON, THE RT REV’D. DAME SARAH MULLALY, AT ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL. There are leaflets at the back of church giving details of this event which takes place in the Cathedral tomorrow, Monday 4th June from 6 30 ‘til 8 pm. Free entrance.

3. CAMDEN GREEN GYM are organising another gardening session at our Peace Garden (east end of this church) this Thursday, 7th June from 11 am. Please come and help the group do some pruning, cleaning and planting! All welcome.

1. THE NATIONAL PILGRIMAGE TO THE SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM takes place tomorrow, Monday 28th May. The Preacher will be The Rev’d. Preb. Graeme Rowlands, Vicar of St Silas Kentish Town here in London. Please bring a packed lunch. The entrance fee to the shrine grounds is an additional £4. We leave Holy Cross Church at 7 30 am promptly and return to King’s Cross at around 8 30 pm. Would those currently on the list who have not yet paid please do so this morning (£20 each)?  Thank you.

2. OUR FRIENDS THE SISTERS OF THE CROSS AT EDGWARE ABBEY are holding an open day at Edgware Priory this Saturday 2nd June. There will be a Mass at midday followed by a celebration lunch (Cost: £6 each). Please fill in the sheet at the back if you would like to go. We leave Holy Cross Church for Edgware at 10 30 am outside this church, and there will therefore be no 10 30 am Mass here in church. The celebrant at the Abbey Mass will be the former Bishop of Edmonton, Bishop Peter Wheatley and the Preacher The Rev’d. Tim Pike, Vicar of St Michael’s Church, Croydon.
